Summary of NSW Page 1 Metadata Elements
July 2002

Numbers in brackets under "Element" indicate element numbers from ISO 19115 Geographic Information - Metadata.

Structural rules for representing NSW Page 1 metadata as documents in the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) are provided in the Document Type Definition (DTD).

Hierarchy Level
[006]
An indication of whether the metadata record refers to a data series or a dataset. Data series metadata refers to a series or collection of spatial data which share similar characteristics of theme, source, date, resolution and methodology. The exact definition of what constitutes series metadata will be determined by the data provider.

A dataset may be a member of a data series.

Example:
The metadata record for "New South Wales DCDB Polygon/Tags" refers to a dataset series [the parent]

The metadata record for "Bathurst 883132N DCDB Polygon/Tags" refers to a dataset that is one of a series [child]

Projection Parameters
[194]
The set of parameters that describe the projection. These are conditional upon the map projection selected.

Example: For Albers, 2 standard parallels, central meridian and latitute of the projection's origin.

For Lamberts, 2 standard parallels, central meridian and latitude of the projection's origin.

For AMG, zone, false easting and northing.

For Geographic, not applicable.
