Title: Standard Instrument - Local Environment Plan (LEP) - Land Zoning LZN
Custodian: NSW Dept of Planning
Jurisdiction: New South Wales
This polygon dataset shows the land use zoning of all areas according to the Local Environment Plan (LEP). These zones are described in detail in part 2 of the LEP and in the land use table.
This part of the LEP describes as follows:
(a) the objectives for development, and
(b) development that may be carried out without consent, and
(C) development that may be carried out only with consent, and
(d) development that is prohibited.
Land use zones in an LEP are grouped into the following broad categories: BUSINESS (B), ENVIRONMENT (E), INDUSTRIAL (IN), RESIDENTIAL (R), RECREATION (RE), RURAL (RU), SPECIAL (SP) and WATERWAYS (W)
- LAND Use Planning
- LAND Use Management
- Geographic extent name:
- NEW SOUTH WALES - State or Territory - New South Wales
Note: The format for each Geographic extent name is: Name - Identifier - Category - Jurisdiction (as appropriate)
Geographic bounding box:
The bounding box encloses the maximum extents of the dataset. There may be voids or gaps within the bounding box, depending on the defined coverage of the dataset. Outer bounding rectangle as Latitude/Longitude coordinates based on the WGS84 datum (expressed as both Degrees Minutes Seconds and as decimal Degrees):
- North bounding latitude: 28 00 00.0 S (-28.0)
- South bounding latitude: 37 30 00.0 S (-37.5)
- East bounding longitude: 154 00 00.0 E (154.0)
- West bounding longitude: 141 00 00.0 E (141.0)

Lineage:
The original data is generated by the respective LGA and provided according to standards described in theStandard requirements for LEP GIS datato the Dept of Planning. Once provided to the Dept of Planning the data is checked for consistency with the standards, incorporated into the statewide dataset and may be subject to further amendments.
Positional accuracy:
It is the Department of Plannings preference that the data for all LEP information layers be aligned to the the Department of Lands Cadastre dataset. Therefore the positional accuracy should be as per the Dept of Lands Digital Cadastral Database (DCDB).
Attribute accuracy:
Attribute accuracy could be considered as good. The preparation of the LEP data involves several checks by both council and Dept of Planning staff, incorporated through the stages of preparing the LEP .
Logical consistency:
The data has been subjected to various checks at different stages during compilation.
Rules include:
- No zoned polygon feature can overlap with another zoned polygon feature.
- All areas shown as 'included' in the Land Application Map layer must have a zone attributed to them.
Completeness:
Since the gazettal of the standard instrument in 2006 all councils are required to prepare a new principle LEP for their LGA. At this time coverage for the state of NSW is not yet complete. However this dataset will undergo continuous upgrade as new LEPs are gazetted and should be complete by 2011. Councils are also required to keep the LEP up to date under regular and periodic review so this dataset is constantly changing.
